WEAR AND TEAR GUIDE

Our Wear and Tear Guide highlights the condition the car must be returned to us in at the end of your agreement.

REPAIR 

Any repairs made to the vehicle must be to a professional standard by repairers who can provide full transferable warranty on their work. 

WHEELS

All wheel trims, where fitted, must be present when the vehicle is returned. Alloy wheels must be free from damage (otuside our fair wear and tear guide). 

TYRES

All tyres including the spare, must comply with the legal requirements regarding wear and tread depth. 

BODYWORK 

The vehicle body must be sound, well maintained and free from any panel damage or disfigurement. Permanent damage to the chassis or underbody will not be accepted. 

PAINTWORK 

There should be no rust, corrosion or discolouration on any painted area, including painted bumpers, body moulding and mirrors. Badges, Labels and Stickers Any badges, labels or advertising materials must be removed and any damage made good. Light commercial vehicles must be returned in the same colour and finish in which they were supplied. 

ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT 

If the vehicle was supplied with a tyre inflation canister this must also be in full working order and ready for use. A canister that has been partially or fully discharged must be replaced. 

ODOURS 

The vehicle must be free of any odours. 

CAR PHONES 

Holes caused by the installation of telephone or radio equipment should be repaired. 

GLASS AND TRIM 

Holes or cracks in glass, mirrors and lenses will not be acceptable. Your windscreen may be professionally repaired by approved agents, provided the repair complies with the Department of Transport legislation. 

INTERIOR TRIM 

The interior condition must be representative of the vehicle’s age and mileage. It should be free from any burns, tears, cuts, heavy soiling or unsightly repairs. 

LOADING AREA 

The general condition should reflect normal usage. Floor coverings and surrounding trims should not be torn or split. 

RUBBER SEALS 

Wear and tear damage to rubber door, window and other seals is acceptable, as long as it does not affect its functional efficiency. 

MILEAGE 

When the vehicle is handed back, there may be a charge for any excess mileage. If so, the Retailer will let you know what this is. 

LAMPS AND LENSES 

All lamps must work. Minor scuff marks or scratches up to 25mm to exterior lenses are acceptable. Holes or cracks in the glass or plastic covers of lamp units are not. 

CONVERTIBLES 

Soft and hard top convertible roofs must be fully operative and free from damage, rips and tears. 

DOOR MIRRORS 

Missing, cracked or damaged door mirrors are not acceptable. Any adjustable and/or heated door mirrors (as applicable) must work correctly. 

SERVICE 

You should arrange for the vehicle to be serviced in accordance with the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule by your franchised retailer. 

WEAR AND TEAR 

The following would not be acceptable wear and tear, regardless of mileage:

  • Seized engine caused by overheating due to lack of coolant, or broken internal components 
  • Grooved or distorted brake discs 
  • Slipping or erratic changes of an automatic gear box; slipping clutch or ineffectual synchromesh 
  • Defective battery 
  • Any missing, broken or bent components 
  • Sub-standard repair not in accordance with the manufacturers guidelines or industry practice
